MSIDT Projects
Teaching Electrician Apprentices
Purpose: My instructional product is a digital on-demand Articulate Rise 360 e-learning course. I have created one module out of four. The first module is about instructional strategies for establishing inclusion in a classroom. The course aims to address the unique challenges that come with the transition from being a content area expert to a classroom facilitator/instructor.

Objectives: By the end of this demo module, learners will be able to (1) Identify characteristics of adult learners, (2) identify characteristics of effective instructors, and (3) construct a classroom plan for the first day of class.

Culturally Responsive Teaching
Purpose: The learning object was created with the intent that it could be nested in a larger culturally responsive teaching unit. The unit would pair with more chapters in Zaretta Hammond’s Culturally Responsive Teaching and The Brain.

Objectives: The overarching objective of the learning object is that teachers will be able to adopt a culturally responsive teaching methodology. First, educators must understand what culturally responsive teaching is. Culturally responsive teaching is not a set of rules or teaching strategies, but rather a way of checking one’s biases, learning about your students, and intentionally practicing anti-racism. The objectives of this one module include (1) define vocabulary about culturally responsive teaching, (2) describe your culture using the language of cultural archetypes from Zaretta Hammond’s framework, and (3) reflect on how your culture affects your teaching practices and relationships with your student

Teaching Close Reading
Purpose: The learning object was created with the intent that it could be nested in a larger poetry analysis unit. The unit would include the acronym TPCASTT (title, paraphrase, connotation, attitude, shift, title, tone), which is widely used as a teaching tool in the secondary English Language Arts classroom to analyze poetry. The learning module teaches the ‘C’ of the acronym, which stands for connotation.

Objectives: The overarching objective of the learning object is that the student will be able to assess how connotation affects a sentence’s mood. Therefore, students will eventually be able to apply this skill to complete a close-reading of a poem. The sub-objectives include (1) define denotation and connotation by identifying the qualities of each term, (2) sort words by positive, neutral, or negative connotation, (3) rank words from most positive to least positive connotation, and finally, (4) assess how connotation changes the mood of a sentence.

Intelligent Tutoring Systems (ITS)
Purpose: This research project on intelligent tutoring systems was created using Articulate Storyline. The purpose is to inform the viewer about the contemporary updates and functions of intelligent tutoring systems.

Objectives: By the end of this 5-7 minute video, learners will be able to (1) generally define intelligent tutoring systems, (2) explain contemporary updates to ITS, (3) explain how the computers communicate with the human learner, and (4) explain how the computers learn about the human learner.
